KB Pec Opener 🔥
Pec tightness is a huge killer of overall shoulder ROM, function, and velocity. Soft tissue work may temporarily provide some relief, but more needs to be done for long-term help.
Cues:
- Arm straight and hand holding/pushing the KB as far away from your body as possible
- Knees bent then roll away from your hand, trying to separate the top knee from your hand as much as possible
-Hold & breathe
**work both palm up AND palm down

Best pitch in baseball, also extremely difficult to throw ⬇️
If you are a sinker guy (especially if your two best pitches are sinker/changeup), being able to keep the hitter uncomfortable by getting the sinker under his hands is crucial
Only attacking away, especially with sinker/changeup combo, is a recipe for disaster for lefties that can hit the other way.
In order to throw the toughest pitches in the biggest moments, you need to train for it. The % of pitches I actually use the front hip sinker is low, but without having it in my tool belt I would have significantly less success.

For those of you down a tick or two in your first few games…woosah (look it up)
There are so many factors out there that can affect velocity that worrying about a tiny change is ridiculous, especially early in the year.
Personal example: last winter I averaged 89.8 MPH, started spring 87-89 MPH, ended up being 90-92 every outing for the last ~2 months of the season and T93 MPH. This winter I averaged 90.7 MPH and have started the spring around 88-90 MPH.
My top velo so far is under what I averaged in the winter…so why am I not panicking? (it’s the same reasons you shouldn’t either) ⬇️
1. I have a program I have proven to have long-term success and battle-tested to work through any peaks, valleys, and plateaus I hit‼️
2. Conditions affect velocity greatly: weather, cleat types (shoes vs molded vs metals), throwing volume (especially for relievers, multi-game weekends), etc
3. 💩 happens, sometimes it’s just not your day whether it’s velocity or command or all of the above. Taking a few early-season performances and allowing them to make you change everything you’re doing is something you 100% cannot do!
Compete with what you have, especially when it’s cold (especially for all my Midwest brothers out there).
If you are following an elite program individualized for your development, the success is coming🔥

Based on both my own experience as a player as well as experiences of athletes that have switched to me from other companies/coaches, the lack of communication in some remote coaching is not acceptable🚫
The absolute bare minimum showing that you care about your athletes and giving them the best chance to succeed is consistent and quick communication.
If you are having to double-text your coach, wait for days to hear back, and beg for video analysis…you are not getting the value you deserve‼️
Train with someone who you can say genuinely cares about you, the results will come much quicker.

College arm @bransfordphillip started with me this winter topping 81 MPH and within 6 weeks was hitting 84 MPH, but it wasn’t just a velocity development that led to him going from the 3rd worst option on his team to now a main bullpen arm ⬇️
Phil worked extremely hard and committed fully to the programming I put together for him. Tons of video, tons of communication, gave me everything that I needed to to help him be as successful as possible.
After his biomechanics assessment, we tweaked his mechanics to become much more efficient to allow for growth in his velocity, stuff, and command.
It’s a simple formula, high quality individualized programming + athlete buying in completely = success✅
Couldn’t be prouder, nothing beats seeing my guys change their careers!

Is it your hips being “misaligned” or is it the fact you guessed on all of your training this offseason and now aren’t prepared? 🤔
It’s not your fault. Your job is to perform, not to understand how to perfect every piece of your training (especially at the HS level)
It’s also not your fault that you’ve been misled to believing some things like your “hip alignment” are the low hanging fruit you need to “fix” your arm pain.
We put our bodies through hell while performing, and that requires equally as demanding training measures as well as corrective work. I wish it were as simple and easy to fix as just sitting against a wall for 2 minutes, but the truth is that’s not going to fix you after you just threw 100 pitches 🤷🏻♂️
Few helpful tips:
1. Do research on who you trust/listen to/train with
2. Get help from reputable & educated coaches with your best interest at heart and proven results (doesn’t even need to be me, but obviously would be awesome)
3. If you hear an idea from someone with no educational background with the human body telling you to ignore licensed PT’s with 7+ years of education, take that as your first sign to proceed with caution👍🏼

Windmill throws helped me go from muscled-up to whippy ⬇️ **this is not an easy drill to feel immediately, DM for help/questions!
The arm should begin to circle and feeling your arm “catch” the momentum of the swing (NOT muscly rotations). **arm swing is not linear, should go slightly diagonal across your body
After feeling the momentum and timing, start your move toward the plate and feel the arm flip up naturally before throwing.
I typically use an overload plyo ball to really allow the momentum of the downward swing to bring my arm back to flip-up instead of needing to “force” the action.
Have had great results with some of my athletes who have struggled with stabby arm actions to learn how to feel momentum in their arm swings rather than an active stab and then pushy arm action.
Not necessarily claiming to have invented these, but I have no recollection of seeing the drill before I started doing them soooo maybe?🤔

There are two sides to the coin after failure: people who bear down vs people who shut down.
Your reaction to failure and how you act in the following days not only will determine how quickly you bounce back, but also tells so much about the type of person you are.
If your reaction to a failure in a game, weekend, month, etc is to give up or become discouraged…you will only slip further away from where you want to be and the odds of you bouncing back are significantly lower.
If your reaction to failure in a game is “I can’t wait to get back to work and for my next opportunity to perform”…you are going to get past that failure AND become better because of it.
This is also why discipline > motivation, because regardless of the outcomes and how you “feel, discipline will keep you stable.
Personally did not perform quite up to my standards this weekend, and the only thing in my brain is being even more excited to get back out and perform again. Can’t run from the failure, if you’re not fired up to get to work and get back out there then you can expect to fail again!

Maybe the best exercise that I have come across, wish I had seen this years ago 💯 S/o to @rehabpitchingguy saw this originally on his page
Grab a pull-up bar, while using the side post as a slight assist/stabilizer throughout the movement.
Keep the hanging arm STRAIGHT at all times, all of the movement happens via the scap‼️ Think about pulling the scap down hard in order to initiate the movement
Arm straight, side arm assists, pull the scap down hard, and externally rotate 🔥
Can use both the palm facing and palm away grip

Exactly 1 year apart…which one is harder and WHY? 🤔
Pitch shapes metrically were the same aside from velocity difference, but what do you see that changed in these two clips?
